India-US strategic partnership bolstered at 2 plus 2 Ministerial Dialogue

In a significant diplomatic event, the fifth India-US 2 plus 2 Ministerial Dialogue concluded in New Delhi, marking a milestone in the burgeoning strategic partnership between the two nations. High-level discussions encompassed a broad spectrum of topics, including defense, security, space technology, and people-to-people connections. The dialogue was co-chaired by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, alongside US counterparts, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The dialogue underscored mutual commitments to enhancing collaboration in the global arena, with particular focus on the Indo-Pacific, South Asia, West Asia, and the Ukraine conflict. External Affairs Secretary Vinay Kwatra highlighted a comprehensive review of bilateral relations, emphasizing diverse partnerships in trade, technology, and regional security.

Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane noted the thriving defense ties between India and the US, with co-development being a key focus in recent years. Rajnath Singh, in his opening remarks, emphasized defense as a pivotal pillar of the bilateral relationship, advocating for continued focus on long-term issues despite emerging geopolitical challenges.

Dr. S Jaishankar, speaking at the dialogue, envisaged advancing the joint vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden. He spotlighted the exponential growth in trade and FDI inflows, surpassing the $200 billion mark, and underscored the importance of cooperation in critical technology and space collaboration.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised the ambitious agenda set by Modi and Biden during the former’s US visit, highlighting the strengthening partnership through QUAD. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin remarked on the vast scope of Indo-US cooperation, ranging from seabed exploration to space ventures, and the strengthening of ties through shared initiatives in AI, semiconductors, and renewable energy.
